We had a party of 18, everything we had was horrible. You had 18 chances to get it right and you couldn't. I will not return. It's not that hard to make awesome italian food. The margins are the best in the restaurant business. Don't be cheap and you'll make money on repeat business.

Wait staff was good, I'll give her 4.5 stars. All of the tables had a very thick clear plastic tablecloth bolted to them. Bolted. It was bizarre and more fitting of an art class than a restaurant, maybe they were expecting the mob to come in and open fire and they wanted to prepare for easy clean up? There were oil lamps on all of the tables and the place reeked of burning lamp oil. So disgusting. I should have left but the food reviews were good so I decided to stay the course. The food is not of high quality. Sub par ingredients will always result in sub par food. I started with a Greek salad. It was iceberg lettuce with whole black olives (included the pit but wasn't warned in advance), under-ripe tomato wedges, green and red bell pepper, feta cheese chunks, and a few pepperoncinis. The red bell pepper tasted as if it wasn't washed as it had a slight chemical taste. My partner started with a cup of minestrone soup which he gave a "solid 8" on the 1-10 scale. Bread was served with the meal, it was thick soft slices but it too tasted a little like chemicals, maybe like the plastic bag it came in? We ordered a pizza, mushrooms on the whole thing and one half with meat. It came plain on half but the waitress saw this and took it back immediately. A few minutes later she returned, the pizza fixed by putting mushrooms on the other half and more cheese on top. The mushrooms were canned and tasted like metal. The heavy cheese made the crust too soft, not quite mushy but unappealing. I couldn't wait to get the bleep out of that place.

Don't usually give five stars but they don't have an option for six. Great authentic Italian food. What a surprise. There was five of us and we all had something different and everything was outstanding.

Daytona beach is like little Italy because every half mile their is an a pizzeria or Italian restaurant. It very surprising how some of the mom and pop own restaurant/pizzeria stays open due to saturated competition. But Porto-Fino have stood through the test of time. They have always have serve the best ingredient and best cook Italian food. I was hesitant coming in here at first because my hotel is right across the street. The best Italian so far was Rossellini's 3 nights ago. I just did not feel like driving tonight and I wanted to drink more wine to celebrate because it is our last night in Daytona. As soon as we came in, we were greeted and seated right away. Linda was our waitress and she was a gem because she knew everything on their vast menu. The menu was "old school". They had Francais, Caciatori, Marsala, Scampi, lasagna, etc. They also serve pizza which you could never go wrong because it is good. All I could say is that I wish we we were here the first night of our vacation because I want to try everything they have. I love the service because Linda was awesome. The decor of the place reminds me of the restaurants in Naples and Sicily. As for the prices, it was competitive and very easy on the wallet. Again, I wish my family and I would have come here the first night because we would have been here every night for dinner while on vacation. But we will be coming back when we are back in town.

Came to this place on a Monday, and it was pretty good. I got the veal Marsala and liked it. My friends got the meatballs and shrimp scampi. Mom and dad got other dishes that were pretty good too. I think it's a place that you should definitely come back too. Their bread is fantastic.

They are getting five stars - and I want you to stick around and read why. First of all, the first time my family (when I was the baby of 7 of us) came here in 1989 - I was 3 - and we wanted to find family-owned restaurants and my family has told stories of being treated with such welcome hospitality in a tourist town that gets very little repeat business being adjacent to so many hotels. We are also Italians. We don't eat Fazoli's or Pasta House or even Maggiano's in STL... we only eat on "The Hill" in St. Louis because those other things I mentioned are NOT authentic Italian, family owned, restaurants... or they try to pass off bottled sauces (very obvious when a restaurant doesn't know the different between a Northern Italian sauce or a Sicilian sauce.) as "special"... they aren't. Fast forward to 2015 - when we decided to return to Daytona Beach as a family, now that the same family of 7 is now 21 with all of our spouse's and children. Porto Fino's is still here... Yes, more than 30 years, they are still there. The first night we ordered take out from there, my son who has some impulse control issues - was having a hard time waiting on the food - the waitress was apparently incredible about keeping him occupied and giving him something to keep his hands busy (some sort of dough). Big points from this Mom. The final night in Daytona we went there for a sit-down... we were the only ones in the place and the waitress was incredibly kind, personable, and really made us feel welcome. We have our fingers on the pulse of the food-scene in multiple cities and tourist cities are always a massive food failure... Not this place! The pizza was delicious and not served burned or overcooked or on a puffy crust. The salad was delish, and the pepper steak I had for carry out was pretty darned good! We really felt "at home" when we were eating here... and this Italian-raised girl felt like it was a place where I would be confident that I would get real Italian fare... not bottled Ragu... or something worse. Very pleased with the service, kindness, hospitality, friendliness, you name it. Please visit here when you stay in Daytona. It resides across from the Hampton Inn. Also, a little tip - the police in most cities know where the good family owned restaurants are and most of the good food... Shortly after we ordered, a fleet of police came in for dinner. THAT IS HOW YOU KNOW, I promise. ;)

We ordered a large pizza to go. We got home and opened the box. It was a medium at best and the cheese was burnt. The crust was not of pizza dough and seemed as if it were frozen and the sauce was very sweet. I don't believe we will be back.

I was happy to see this family run restaurant amongst all of the chain restaurants. The atmosphere reminded me of a 70s diner my grandma used to work at, but I kind of liked that. It looks like the restaurant has been there for years. Prices were very reasonable. The food tasted authentic and came out quickly. Wine was $4 a glass. The tiramisu was very good. The server wasn't very attentive, but there were a lot of large parties that night. I'm glad I tried it and would recommend.

Simply outstanding! Ordered the lasagna and a pepperoni pizza. Probably the best lasagna I have ever had! Will definitely be back!

This is an authentic, family owned Italian restaurant. It is frequented by the locals in Daytona beach shores and is a pretty good family restaurant. The waitress was abrupt, but seemed nice. The wine was tasty for the price. The food was pretty good, but nothing special. Overall, this is a good, reasonably priced place to visit with the family if your looking for an authentic Italian restaurant, but it doesn't stand out to me.

Service was a little slow, but staff was very nice. Food was good. It is a little antiquated inside. Has a northern diner type feel. Dinner for two with salads and a bottle of wine was under $50. Great value.

Great place. We walked in and didn't know what to think at first but the step back in time was actually cool and the pizza was GREAT!! There are little things that could be "fixed" and cleaned a little better, but let's be honest, We weren't looking for a high end restaurant, just a good pizza! The other food I seen pass by looked good as well. Friendly wait staff was very appreciated.

What a delicious surprise! Friendly servers and authentic Italian cuisine made this my favorite meal on our Trip to Daytona. My husband had the steak which was cooked perfectly and the sauce on the shrimp scampi is to die for. I kept mopping it up with the warm Italian bread until my plate was clean. Yes the decor is dated, but I wouldn't want it any other way! Be sure to take home dessert...I'm not a fan of cannoli but I'm pretty sure this is exactly the way it should taste!

The staff was very nice, but we weren't impressed with the food. Had to ask for drink refills. My son had Fettuccine Alfredo and the sauce was lukewarm and had a jarred taste. I had chicken that was cooked in a garlic butter sauce. It was okay - but it was missing something. Also, it was served swimming in the garlic butter sauce. The homemade bread was very good. Best part of the meal, in my opinion. Also the house dressing (a vinaigrette) was very good. Dessert was interesting. My oldest son had Tiramisu - which was very good. Tasted and looked homemade. My youngest son had cheesecake. Run of the mill cheesecake. Didn't taste homemade. My husband ordered chocolate cake - and we were surprised to see them pull a plastic cake box out of the cooler, from PUBLIX. WE paid $3.50 for a piece of cake from a grocery store! We were on vacation and wanted to try out the local mom and pop places. We wouldn't return.

Arrived and welcomed right when we walked in the door. It was nice that they recognized us from our last visit, granted it was within the same week. The first time I was there we ordered a combination plate, stuffed shell, manicotti and ravioli with the meat sauce. I loved it, ordered the garlic cheese bread, should have ordered a side of sauce to dip it with. It came about and was a pretty good sized loaf and was tasty. I also got to sample some of my families plates and the veal Parmesan was so good I went back and tried the chicken Parmesan tonight. Very tasty but the veal was better. I give it a 4 star due to the dated decor. Portions are large and the service was delightful.

Excellent service and food! My husband, son and I went here on a Tuesday evening. The food was delicious and authentic. Their fresh baked bread is heavenly. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan, which was absolutely perfect! The portions were each large enough to feed two people. We each ended up boxing up almost half of our dishes. Next time we're on vacation in Daytona, we will definitely be back!

Honestly this place is not good. I was really excited about coming here with my family and was a huge let down. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with 2 stars. The chicken parm wasn't good at all. I literally feel like it could have been packaged breaded chicken. The bread on the pizza was horrible. On top of that the server literally grabbed my pizza with her hands and served on my plate. I was like WT_ !!!!!! I'm sorry but I would bet that the frozen Italian food from publix is better. Just sucks because I was really hoping to have great "homemade Italian food"

Great eggplant & zucchini parm. Very good pizza, lasagna, and antipasto salad. We are regulars.

My wife and I are there this evening. Overall the food was ok, the atmosphere was dated and the wait staff was attentive. We found the sauces to be bland, like a canned sauce. The salad was good, fresh vegetables, etc. The place overall was not bad but I likely would not go back.

K so for what I expected walking in I was kinda sad walking out. Wasnt bad or terrible just was not as good as i was hoping. The service was amazing and they stayed open way late for us since we walked in with 15min. before closing. I was just hoping for some original moms homemade Italian food. Pizza was not great not bad was just ok and kinda expensive for what it was. I prob would not come here again if i was in the area

Food is MUCH better than the decor! I had the eggplant parmesan & my husband had the ravioli with meat sauce. The salad was unnecessary & the bread was garlic- and butter-less, but the entrees were worth it! If you drink more than 1 glass of wine get the 1/2 carafe for $10. Our meal & Service was OUTSTANDING! Only give it 4 stars bc of the unbelievably old decor. As with everything else in daytona, it's outlandishly outdated.

Amazing food! Our waitress has worked there since 1977. The decor is still from the 70's and a bit eclectic. Their house dressing is great.

This was a total shock !! I stopped in for what I thought as a box checking exercise turned out the food was EXCELLENT, the service - friendly and fast. Put this on your short list.

Excellent food and great service!! The chicken in garlic sauce with peppers is especially good. Be sure to order a side of pasta to enjoy all of the sauce!

Very tasty and great service. Chicken parm, ziti, and beef tips were all a hit with the family. Order the side of Italian sausage and house salad dressing - well worth it. Interior leaves something to be desired, but food and service were great, and that's what is important!

Ate there last night - family of four. Servers were good and friendly. We ate a large meat and large white pizza. Both very good. The white pizza is made with Alfredo sauce and it was very good. Pet peeve - son ordered a refill on milk and the waitress never mentioned we would be charged. Could have bought 2 gallons for the price. Not sure about other reviews, but the food was good. Restaurant is old Italian motif and gives you a very homey feel. A little pricy, but not bad.

Came here for dinner but a definite disappointment. Nice waitress but there it ended. My veal was cooked in a thick goo loaded with undercooked onions. Not returning - there has to be better Italian out there in DB. UPDATE - I've found a restaurant in DB called Rosselino's - it's like light and day compared to Porto Fino. See my review.

Terrific homemade food amidst a town that caters to tourists who probably would never think to try something other than fast food or commercially branded restaurants. Don't let the Kitschy, classic Daytona decor fool you. This place knows food! The owner strives to make everyone feel like family, and everything is made-to-order which is awesome when you have fussy eaters! Portofino is someplace I grew up eating with my family, and now I bring my own to help preserve memories and advocate for small businesses being a staple of this great city. Give it a try because for all the crappy meals and $$$ you can spend at Olive Garden, Chili's, ect. at least you know you're food doesn't come frozen from a box and reheated like those poor quality "family" restaurants.

Very well-priced. Homemade delicious Italian food. And homemade bread! We were exhausted from a long day and this was a perfect meal. Our server was Brenda, if you go tell her our band The Black Shades from bowling green, ky recommended her! She's a darling.

If you want better Italian food, go to Domino's. I doubt the food was fresh because the salads were piled up on plates in one fridge, the desserts were melting in another. I feel the only reason they are in business is because the local retired folks would rather eat crap than cook for themselves. Not kid freindly either. The highchair looked like a futuristic torture machine. I was reall y hungry when I went in there too. I drive faster when I pass by the place and it will be a while before my family and I get over the experience. I imagine most of their customers do not use yelp.

Great old-style food and service. 1960s style italian. Great pizza and salad. The one-star reviewers are crazy - this is a good place!

The place was too old. My salad was rotten. Waitress switched with another plate which only had iceberg lettuce. She did not even say sorry for that. Pizza was completely salty.

The food here was genuine Italian. In my opinion it is a wonderful port in a storm. It was a bit rushed, good food, reasonable prices, and a bit dated decor. Overall, not bad.

This has been the go to for quality food in Daytona Beach Shores for well over 30 years. George and his staff are great and the food is delicious!! The chicken francais is my favorite with the requested Greek style salad. If you are looking for a great meal be sure to take your family here.

Food was nothing special, the shrimp wasn't fully cleaned, the sauce could've been out of a jar, but the worse thing was having to listen to a waitress rant about a fellow waitress stealing tips. The owner/manager told her in a loud voice that "ok, Enough",but she wouldn't quit. Bad enough the food was so so, but after the first 5 minutes of good vibe, to have to eat at listen to the ranting spoiled it more. We were there on July 13th 2015. Will never go back.

2nd time here and the food is as wonderful as the 1st time. The Lasagna is fabulous, fresh bread and salad with house dressing. My husband had the chicken parmigiana with house salad. It does get busy starting around 5:30 we try to get there before 5 to avoid the wait times. If you are looking for good Italian food give them a try.

I travel the country for work and that was some of the best Chicken Marsala I ever had. I got it to go and had a plastic knife and it cut through the chicken like butter. No grease at all, just pure Scarpetta bliss. Small authentic place with really nice welcoming people who work there. Can't wait til next time I'm here for work to try somethng else.

  • Kellie H.

The staff are very friendly and you feel comfortable here. Nice 70s vintage decor, although it was probably the last time the place was upgraded. Don't let that fool you, the sauce is to die for!

  • Deke K.

Good Italian no frills food. Decent portions about $13. Wine $4 glass. I had a nice chianti with pasta sampler, a ravioli, a meat manicotti, a stuffed shell. Came with a nice salad with a fine house Italian and 3 slices of warm homemade bread. The place was empty 5:30 Monday off season. Friendly waitress. Place is dated, well worn. Spumoni was a nice dessert option.

We always love to eat here, when we are in Daytona. The food is great and the prices are reasonable. Everything is good, but the pizzas are wonderful.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
